Pediatric Fitness Training
This
program was developed for children with special needs who have
developmental and gross motor impairments which impede their ability to
achieve physical fitness. We believe that promotion of lifelong habits
of physical activity in childhood will have direct and indirect
effects on health and prevention of disease in adulthood.
Our goal is to help
children improve their overall physical fitness. Improved endurance,
strength and flexibility can be utilized to achieve greater independence
and ease with their daily activities.
Components to fitness include:
Cardiovascular Endurance - improved working capacity; reduced
fatigue and risk of coronary disease
Muscular Strength and Endurance - improved capacity for
lifting/carrying and optimizes posture
Flexibility - enhanced functional capacity for bending and
twisting; reduced risk of back pain
Body composition - reduced risk of hypertension, coronary heart
disease, and diabetes
